BlackBerry Messenger To Get A Makeover

BlackBerry messenger has been a staple of the instant communication we are all accustomed to for a few years now on the BlackBerry platform. It seems RIM has been busy working on a new and improved version of BBM.  The Boy Genius has been able to get his hands on the new version and has been kind enough to share some of the new features and screenshots with us.

According to The Boy Genius we can expect avatar support, set your picture and your friends will see it next to your user name and vice versa.  We can also expect GPS-location support.  You will be able to set permissions for your friends allowing them to never see your location, request your location, or constant access to your location.  Also a new feature that incorporates a “proximity sensor” which one can only speculate this will alert you if your contacts are within a certain distance to you.   You will now be able to title your conversations.  Lastly, with the new version you will be able to set shortcuts on your BlackBerry desktop for individual BBM contact.

This brings up the question of what other features would you like to see RIM implement in BBM?  Let us know in the comments section!
