You can file this one under Rumors , but The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple Inc. is developing a new iPhone to debut this summer and also appears to be working on a model for U.S. mobile phone operator Verizon Wireless. They also say that it will enter mass production by Pegatron Technology Corp., the contract manufacturing subsidiary of Taiwan’s ASUSTeK Computer Inc. but do not give a solid date of availability. This report does line up with speculation that this is the year of the CDMA iPhone and AT&T’s exclusivity contract does expire soon. Call me a skeptic, but until I hear an official announcement from Apple, or Verizon Wireless I won’t be convinced.
That being said, if this is true ATT better figure out a way to combat their network infrastructure issues, because Verizon has them nailed there. I know alot of iPhone users who would love to drop ATT without having to drop their beloved iPhone. Time will tell.
