Updated-Rumor: HTC Incredible Replacing Droid Eris At Verizon Wireless-Eris End Of Life Is April 1st

Posted on 09. Mar, 2010 by in Rumors

Update:  I have never seen people get so bent out of shape over a rumor.  Truly amazes me.  I want to clarify, since some people seem to not understand, that end-of-life simply means that Verizon will no longer be placing orders for the Eris.  It does not mean that come April 1st the Eris will be pulled off of shelves and no longer available, other carriers handle end-of-life differently but this is how Verizon handles it.  If there is stock in the warehouse it will still be on shelves.   Also, when I say “Incredible is expected to launch around that same date” that doesn’t mean before the end of March as some other sites have decided to put it.  That means, it will launch around April 1st.  Enough said.

We just got word from a trusted source that the HTC Incredible will be replacing the Droid Eris at Verizon Wireless.  The Eris will be end of life on April 1st.  With the Eris going end of life on the 1st and information from our source the Incredible is expected to launch around that same date.  Another interesting thing our source told us was that Verizon is viewing the Incredible as their version of the Nexus One.  I will be the first to admit I was wrong with expecting Verizon to have Nexus One’s in store, at least at a display level.  My source says not to count on it, the Incredible is what they will push in store.  Great news for Android fans on Verizon!

Can we get a breakdown of all the specs between the Incredible, Desire, and N1…aren’t all of these heading to VZW in some form or fashion?

I’ve been wanting an Eris for some time. If the Incredible is Nexus One caliber, I’m down. Hurry up 4/1!

This honestly doesn’t make any sense to me. The Droid Eris is Verizon’s low-cost Android phone. Why would they drop their low-end product for a high-end product? Personally, I would tell your “trusted source” to shove it.

So.. if their “trusted source” does prove to be right.. do they get to tell you to shove it?

Well…I can’t say I wasn’t surprised when I read this article. My first thought when I read a summarized article on AC that the Incredible was going to be dumbed down, lower specs and all, but it’s gong to be vzw’s version of the Nexus, then I’m down for it.
As far as dropping the Eris, that’s a surprise as well, it is their low-end Android phone, a very good one at that. Maybe they’ll be adding another low-end Android device later. Verizon needs all levels of Android phones, not everyone is going to spend the money for a Droid or Incredible; both being high-end. There’s alwasy BOGO for the droid….jump on it.

For thos folks that want to the Eris, I would still get it as there will be a lot of support out there for it even after Vzw drops it. Sprint Hero, which is the Eris, hasn’t been dropped, so whatever comes out for the Hero will work on the Eris.

Really? So Verizon is testing an OS update for the phone right now. An update that they are supposed to have out by the end of Q1 and then the very first day of Q2 they plan to discontinue it? Is that what you are saying? And they plan on doing this on April fools day no less.

you guys are taking things way too serious.. it is almost comical.

April fools jokes are usually mildly funny on April fools. The rest of the year they are childish and rather stupid.

I agree with you, good thing this isn’t an April fools joke

    Isn’t the devour entry level?

you sir, would be correct.. thus eliminating the fact that the Eris is their low cost phone. Fantastic point..

So what are the specs? That’s the question everyone wants to know.

    • Jason Cipriani

      09. Mar, 2010

still working on confirming those.. initial rumors have been identical to the Nexus One.. again, not confirmed

Thaks for the reply. The big sticking point is the ram. Every indiciation is that it will have 256mb but that doesn’t make sense given the N1′s specs and the fact that it would be a premier phone.

Thanks for posting this. Not even tho other blogs with news on android phones have really posted this. I do hope April 1 is the release date instead of the vague May I heard recently. That’d make me very happy since I’m up for an upgrade now.

Let me clear something up, the Incredible is expected to launch around April 1st. The Eris is what is expected to go end-of-life on the 1st.

Oh I understood, but it’s crazy how bent out of shape folks on forums and other sites have gotten over this rumor. I hope it’s more than a rumor though, as again, I’m due for an upgrade and it coming out around April 1st would make me a happy guy.

Sorry you guys got some much crap though on other sites for posting a rumor from a credible source.

incredible looks good, much better than the ERIS which was an weak excuse for a phone, vzw is no good.

okay so im reading these comments and all I really see is blah blah blah. Do any of you actually no what HTC is doing? Im pretty sure the answer to that questions is a BIG No. Do not discredit something when you have no idea what you are talking about. First of all do not compare specs of HTC and MOTO device its all relative. Also Moto has only released one Device that has somewhat decent specs and that would be the Droid and the Droid is jut a so so device in my eyes. I know for a fact that 2.1 is in development for the Eris and Hero considering I run 2.1 on every Android Device I own, oh and 3.0 on a few others but thats for a different rant. Just because something hits end of life on a carrier does not mean that it will just up and “vanish” it just really means that vzw will not longer order this device which makes sense. The HTC Incredible will be launching around April 1st. So to wrap this up dont discredit Berryscoop with your nonsensical BS. Their info is correct and wherever your “sources” are, they are wrong and most likely just pull it out of their heads like 95% of the blogging world. Enough Said. Good Job BerryScoop.

My only issue is with Verizonwireless for dragging out the release of phones that can compete against the Iphone…..they need a better variety of phones and they need it now…..Many will start leaving Verizon to get the phones they need….HTC phones seem to be better quality phones

Don’t forget, VZW just released that Motorola A555 “Devour” for the teeny-boppers who think they want Android. With the HTC P00100 “Droid Eris” going off the shelves, this leaves Verizon with a $100, $150, and $200 selection. Personally, I’d like to see the Eris stay; it’s exactly what I need, a no-frills, grownup smartphone with ACTUAL buttons to answer calls with. I don’t need the latest and greatest, fancy-shmancy microcomputer. And I certainly don’t need a sliding, off-center keyboard that I can’t even type my own name on.

I’m just worried that my planned upgrade date, 04/04, might be too late for the Eris. But if I had to get the Incredible (which, by the way, is a stupid name for a phone anyway in my opinion, which is the only opinion that matters) for say, $100, then I’m game. I’m just waiting for that $50 New Every Two credit.

This will be my first “smartphone,” which I never thought I’d ever want. But without high speed internet access in my rocky forest crag six zillion miles from fiber optic or coax cable, this is probably going to be my best bet. And since I’m nowhere near my own computer for days on end, a smartphone would get more use. I think the Eris would work just nicely.

If you are eligible to upgrade on 4/4 you more than likely, even if this rumor is true, will have no issues getting an Eris. Just because it is supposed to go end-of-life on 4/1 doesn’t mean it wont be in stores any longer. Most stores will continue to sell through the stock that they have on shelves. Best of luck to you!
