Swype Opens Android Beta-Sign Up Now!

Posted on 05. Mar, 2010 by in Tech News

Starting today Swype has launched an official beta for their text input application on Android.  The reason Swype is so appealing is due to the fact that the user will draw a line over the letters of the word they want to type, instead of pressing on each key.  You can see in the picture to the left how there is a line that starts at “s” and ends on “e”, thus spelling Swype in motion.  The potential with this enhancement to touchscreen devices is signifigant.

There have been many forum postings with the files to Swype for awhile, but now they are offering and official beta via their website.  Here are the details:

  • Initially we will have a limited number of participants – we’ll expand it soon
  • In English and Spanish – more languages to come
  • Limited Features – some key features of Swype require OEM integration
  • HVGA and WVGA Resolutions – don’t worry we’ll detect this automatically
  • Limited End User Support – mostly via our forum
  • If your phone came pre-installed with Swype
DO NOT download this beta (it won’t work)

Head on over to Swype’s site and sign up.
