Twitter.com suggests download for Twitter for BlackBerry

Posted on 12. Apr, 2010 by in BlackBerry

The beta for the Official Twitter for BlackBerry application was launched a few days ago, and Twitter followed up by saying that they actually helped RIM with the development and were endorsing the application as their own.  They also recently bought the ever popular iPhone Twitter application Tweetie and have made  that their official application for the iPhone platform.  They are not wasting any time trying to get users to load the BlackBerry version onto their devices and use it.  When visiting twitter.com from your BlackBerry browser you are greeted with a banner that provides a download link for the official Twitter app for BlackBerry. As of this post I have not seen the same for Twitter for iPhone (aka Tweetie2), but I imagine it won’t be far behind. I’m not sure how I feel about Twitter pushing apps as official Twitter apps and what this means for 3rd party devs. I’ve already heard of some developers shelving their Twitter apps because of the decision, are you a developer, if so how do you feel about the new developments with Twitter?

I downloaded it on the weekend and was able to use it briefly. The app then proceeded to cause my Blackberry Bold to lock up every time I went to the Twitter app. Needless to say, it’s been uninstalled.
