Today the mobile TV and Movie subscription service comes out its month long beta to the BlackBerry masses. If you haven’t heard about BitBot, it is a new subscription based mobile video content consumption app by Fox Mobile Group. The app/service allows you to stream TV shows and movies straight to your device over WiFi or your cell network. You can’t get live TV but Bitbop has content deals with a lot of big distributors and they have quite an extensive library. The way it works is once you get your account you have to go online to your online dashboard where you can browse the library and manage your queue. It works much like Netflix, in that you can add TV shows and movies to your queue and then they show up in your app available for streaming or download when ever you want.
I was lucky enough to get in on the beta last week and I have been using it for the last week. The video streaming quality is amazing and much better than anything I’ve seen on a BlackBerry. Now I was only able to use it over WiFi since I’m on an EDGE only 9000, but I think it would perform very admirably over 3G as well. I was able to lay on my couch and peacefully watch my Mythbusters episodes right on my phone. This would be a great advantage if you dont have a large TV in front of you and I can see it being very useful, especially since you can download the episodes straight to your device. The service is $9.99 a month for a TV subscription, and then the movies are a per rental fee. Check out the full press release below and I will be putting together a video overview soon so keep a look out for that as well.
